AT&T announced today that they would increasing early termination fees on smartphones and netbooks from $175 to $325 beginning on June 1. Many are speculating that the reason for the increase is because AT&T will be losing their exclusive contract with Apple for the iPhone sometime in the new few months.
Apple will be introducing their latest iPhone model in June. Wireless carriers subsidize the true costs of a smartphone and recoup the cost by early termination fees. Rumors have it that Verizon will be launching an iPhone in September.
